Cozumel is located in the Caribbean Sea along the eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula about 50 miles (1 hour) south of Cancun and 20 miles off the coast of Playa del Carmen. The island is about 30 miles long and 9 miles wide. The majority of the island's population lives in the town of San Miguel, with a population of about 80,000. There is an international airport that services flights to the US. Cancun also has an international airport. Large ferries travel from the mainland to Cozumel daily carrying people and a car/shipment ferry runs several times a day. Ferry Information
Most of the island is covered with wet mangroves and dense forest cover, which is home to animal species such as crocodiles, deer, iguana, lizards, coatimundi, raccoons, pelicans, and many others. Click here for more information!
